An Aardwolf is an insect-eating species of hyena, native to South Africa. Its name translates as "earth-wolf" in Afrikaans. While the botanical name for hops, a main ingredient in beer, is Humulus lupulus. Lupulus is Latin for "wolf" and it is thought that the etymology of Humulus is derived from the Latin ‘humus’ as “earth and dirt”. What does this have to do with Jacksonville specifically? Nothing, but we thought the name was fun, especially when discussed over a homebrew.
